MA BICHE - "UNFORGETTABLE" HONEYMOON
We had a list of hotels to choose between for our honeymoon. There were options in Greece, Turkey and Tenerife. Finally, our choice ended up to be Ma Biche, because our tour agent promised us some interesting extras. Those included spa treatments of our choice and romantic dinner in A La Carte restaurant. Agent also guaranteed a room with sea view and working air conditioner, which were crucial aspects for us. We decided to pay extra for such package and all the guarantees that were given to us. Our trip was scheduled from 8th to 15th of May.
The interesting part began on the arrival to the hotel. Our transfer driver, who was very polite and helpful in giving advises regarding our holiday, on the way to the hotel mentioned that Thalasso Spa (the main spa center in the hotel) was still under construction and everybody expected it to be finished in couple of days. When we arrived to the hotel it turned out to be not the only thing that was still under the construction. The construction of mini aqua-park, the performance stage, thalasso spa and beach were still in process. Stage and the beach were finished in 2 days before our leave. In fact, Thalasso spa, which was widely advertised, was far from being finished in couple of days. It was at the beginning of construction stage. Therefore we had no chance to try offered spa treatment in the hotel's spa. Moreover, the a la carte restaurant, where we were supposed to have a romantic dinner was not even started to be built.
On arrival we were given a room with partial sea view and partial mountain view. The room was beautifully decorated for us and was relatively big. However, the air conditioning system did not work properly, which in turn required us to open the balcony door for some fresh air. As soon as we did that we heard the construction noise under our window. Moreover, on the mountain side there was a garbage dump full of disposed construction material and sunbeds.
Obviously, we claimed the change of the room, as it did not meet the promises of tour agent in the first place. We were suggested to wait before the technicians would check the air conditioner system, before deciding to change the room. Technicians were called several times and when they finally arrived they just said that the temperature in the conditioning system is set for the whole hotel and the system is not adjusted yet, so there was nothing they could help us with.
That was the final point for us and we contacted our tour agent by email attaching related photos. The agent instantly replied and said she had no clue about the situation in the hotel. She was informed by the hotel management that the hotel was completed and ready for full functioning. Within two hours we got a call from reception with offer to change the room next day. Additionally we were invited to meet the head of the hotel to discuss possible solutions. Our tour agent in reply mentioned the new package that we were supposed to be offered, so we new what to expect. In particular, we had to get 2 visits of spa for free spa treatments and instead of romantic dinner we supposed to get either Turkish Night or a yacht trip.
The next day we met the head management personnel and had an interesting conversation. We were offered 1 spa treatment and trip to Antalya by bus. When we mentioned the offered package that tour agent insisted to claim, they started finding excuses that most of those offers are impossible to realize on different reasons. The yacht trip was still under the question, as they kept telling us that they were trying to arrange it. In the end they offered us a dinner in the room, so we agreed, as it seemed that we did not have much choice. From all the offers, we only got 2 visits for spa treatment outside the hotel. The service of dinner in the room was denied by the chef the day before our leave. He said that there was no such option in the hotel at all, so he had no right to do it. I don't want to speculate on this matter too much, but there are two possible explanations of such situation - either there is really bad communication between departments of the hotel of the management simply neglected their own promises.
On the other hand, hotel had some positive sides too. One of the strongest points of the hotel is food. Chef and his team were outstanding at cooking and serving the food. Although, the waiters were rather slow and could barely cope with their duties of cleaning and preparing the tables for new guests. I had to prepare my own table most of the time (bring napkins, forks and knives etc). By the end of our stay in the hotel it seemed that they were improving though. Most of them were very friendly anyway and we never had any problems with their service apart from the aforementioned. Another big thanks would go to the cleaner, who did her best to make sure that the room was vacuumed and new towels provided. She was so nice that she even decorated our room from time to time. Another strong point of the hotel is nature around it. The views and the park at the hotel's territory were magnificent.
We left the hotel with very mixed feelings and it still does not feel like we've been to honeymoon, as we spent big part of our time communicating with reception, management personnel, trying to get what we were promised and sorting many minor issues. So we can't say that we had a good rest there, it was rather stressing, especially considering that we only had 7 days of holiday.
